This program examines the interface between health, employment and economics.  This Program has been engaged in a highly successful tobacco prevention and cessation project and the On the Ground Prostate Cancer project.

On the Ground Prostate Cancer Project

The impact of prostate cancer on North Carolina is far reaching including the countless number of men and families that have experienced the disease.  After a year-long pilot project in Vance, Granville and Warren counties, the On the Ground Prostate Cancer Project launched an ambitious project to reach a critical mass of men with information on prostate cancer.  The On the Ground Prostate Cancer project is largely supported by a three-year grant from the Community-Focused Eliminating Health Disparities Initiative sponsored by the NC Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities.

AUA Releases Statement Clarifying Prostate Cacncer Testing Recommendations

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 02, 2009

The American Urological Association (AUA) is aware of recent news reports disparaging prostate cancer testing. We are concerned that these reports are causing significant confusion for patients and we wish to clarify our recommendations on prostate cancer testing with the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test and digital rectal exam (DRE). The AUA strongly supports early prostate cancer detection and feels it is in a man’s best interest to consider being tested for prostate cancer.
